Oil platform explodes off Louisiana coast; 13 crew members rescued

An oil platform exploded and burned off the Louisiana coast Thursday, the second such disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in less than five months. This time, the Coast Guard said there was no leak, and no one was killed.

The Coast Guard initially reported that an oil sheen a mile long and 100 feet wide had begun to spread from the site of the blast, about 200 miles west of the source of BP’s massive spill.more...

State cites local energy company in fatal blast

RRC report reveals multiple rules violations

FORT WORTH — A Houston company failed to adequately mark the path of a buried 36-inch natural gas pipeline in Johnson County that was struck and exploded in June, killing one person, the Texas Railroad Commission said Tuesday.

Enterprise Products Operating Llc. violated several state regulations, the commission said in a report. Fines could be $10,000 per day per violation, commission spokeswoman Ramona Nye said. more...

2-year-old boy dies after being left in hot SUV

A 2-year-old boy from Canada who died after being left unattended in a sweltering car parked outside a northwest Harris County home Thursday was apparently overlooked in the confusion of having several relatives visiting at the same time, authorities said.

A sleeping driver caused an interstate collision in Beaumont, according to a recently filed lawsuit.

Martha and Tim Briley filed a lawsuit Aug. 2 in Jefferson County District Court against Agnes Boyd.

Martha Briley claims she drove west on Interstate 10 near Beaumont on Aug. 31, 2008, when Boyd, who also drove west on the same road, fell asleep and drifted from her lane into Briley's, causing a collision.more...

Guilty plea for Houston man in auto accident that killed five kids

Last April a Houston man lost control of his vehicle and drove into a flooded bayou during a heavy rain storm. As a result, five children who were traveling in his vehicle when it crashed were killed. The man recently pleaded guilty to the charges against him stemming from the accident.

The man, Chanton Jenkins, was charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter for his role in the death of the five children. If found guilty, Jenkins could face a maximum of five life sentences behind bars.more...

Houston millionaire John Goodman, a major financial supporter of American polo and the owner of the International Polo Club near Palm Beach, faces up to 30 years in prison in Florida on intoxication manslaughter charges arising from a fatal car crash in February.

Tobi Oyedeji Car Accident

On Sunday 18-year-old Tobi Oyedeji died in Houston due to a serious car accident. He was on his way home after the prom night and at 6 A.M. the accident happened. According to reports on his way home he lost control of his Toyota Avalon and struck another vehicle before hitting a Jeep SUV head-on. The driver of the other vehicle died at the scene.

So we have lost another talented individual. His death was shocking for his family and friends. The 6-foot-9 and 220-pound Tobi Oyedeji was a high school senior. Insurance Companies Target Toyota

Some of the nation’s most popular insurance companies have begun to target Toyota over money they have paid out for crashes involving sudden acceleration. Unless you have been under a rock somewhere for the last several months you are well aware of Toyota’s recall of millions of vehicles due to problems with floor mats and gas pedals that caused some vehicles to suddenly accelerate. Trail lawyers have been targeting Toyota for months, but now it appears there is a new gang trying to recoup expenses from the Japanese automaker, insurance companies.

On Saturday morning, 13-year-old Kendrick Owens was walking with a friend along the road in New Caney, TX, when police say the 1998 Dodge Dakota driven by Javier Correa, 28, struck and killed him.

Calif. Jury Awards $49 Million in Personal Injury Case

A Santa Clara, Calif., jury awarded $49 million in damages Monday to a college student who was on his way to a camping trip when two trucks collided and one struck the car he was riding in, causing him traumatic brain injuries.

Lawyers for Renee Hollier called her jury award of $7,500 "shocking" on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as they pleaded with a local judge for a redo during a hearing for a new trial.

Collision on highway takes one life

A 32-year-old man died on a Baytown highway early Tuesday after a witness told police they saw him driving erratically.

Police involvement began when a call came in from that witness, who was following an SUV being driven in an erratic manner northbound on Highway 146 from the Fred Hartmann Bridge, according to Baytown Police Capt. Jury Awards $2M to Victim of Predatory Paramedic

In the first civil verdict resulting from the predatory behavior of a paramedic, a Portland, Ore., jury has awarded $2.25 million to a woman who was molested in the back of an ambulance while being transported to a hospital.

Three other women had complained about the paramedic, Lannie Haszard, in the two years before he groped Royshekka Herring in December 2007. Dallas, Texas — The use of a Taser stun gun has taken another life and Texas taser injury lawyer, Brian A. Eberstein has filed a lawsuit naming the City of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Police Department officer at fault.
