Traffic Accidents for the week

Fatal Traffic Accident at 1900 North Macgregor Way

April 28, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 1900 block of North Macgregor Way about 3:50 p.m. on Monday (Apr. 27).

The victim, Jack Roberts, 60, a retired Houston Police officer, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Mr. Roberts retired from HPD in March 2006.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Officer M. Lowder:

Mr. Roberts was traveling eastbound, in a gray Toyota Highlander, in the 1900 block of North Macgregor Way, when for some unknown reason, he drove to the right off the roadway and then struck a tree.

It is believed Roberts’ death was caused by a medical condition and not by the injuries he sustained during the accident.

Fatal Traffic Accident at 18400 Gulf Freeway

April 28, 2008 - A woman critically injured in a traffic accident in the 18400 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 1:45 on April 24 has died from her injuries.

The female victim, a 78-year-old passenger, was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital. Doctors pronounced her dead from her injuries last Saturday (Apr. 25). Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. A. Ogden and Officer J. Calvillo reported:

The driver of a Nissan Xterra was traveling southbound on the entrance ramp from El Dorado to the southbound service road of the Gulf Freeway when he had a medical incident and drove through a grassy median and across the service road. The driver of the Nissan then drove through a grassy area and struck a gray Toyota Camry traveling southbound on the freeway, in which the female victim was a passenger. The female driver of the Camry was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital in an unknown condition. The driver of the Nissan was questioned and released at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.

Fatal Traffic Accident at Oak Forest and Overhill

April 28, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 500 Schweikhardt about 1:30 a.m. today (Apr. 28).

A male victim was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Officer A. Alaniz reported:

Officers responded to a fatality accident at 500 Schweikhardt and Edmund. A Ford Taurus, traveling south on Schweikhardt at a high rate of speed, struck a light pole on the west side of the street. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses state that a Hispanic male passenger left the scene on foot. He was last seen walking north on Schweikhardt, bleeding from his leg. The Ford Taurus had been stolen from the City of Houston’s Health and Human Services Department Multi Service Center at 4014 Market on Tuesday, April 27.

Fatal Traffic Accident at 9800 Club Creek

April 27, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 9800 Club Creek about 9:00 p.m. on Friday (Apr. 24).

A female passenger died en route to the hospital. Her identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Senior Police Officer L. Morrison reported:

A Kia Sephia was involved in an accident and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Sephia lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement and struck a light pole. A male and female were passengers in the Sephia. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The male passenger was transported to Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
