Houston, TX–Air France Flight 447, a commercial flight carrying 216 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed on June 1, 2009 off the northern coast of Brazil. The plane went down after taking off from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil en route to Paris, France and all 228 passengers and crew members are presumed dead. Search and rescue teams recovered 51 bodies and the black box recorder was not retrieved from the ocean.
