Sisters charged after pit bulls attack Chihuahua; man stabbed at Northeast Austin apartments
Two charged in pit bull attack
Two sisters have been charged with a felony after police say they attempted to hide two pit bulls that "eviscerated" a Chihuahua on Friday.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to a North Austin neighborhood where witnesses said that a woman's two dogs badly injured a smaller dog and that the woman left the scene without leaving any identifying information. One of the pit bulls wasn't on a leash, the affidavit said, in violation of city code.
Police pursued a Dodge Charger that witnesses said left the area and found it behind two trailers on Metropolitan Drive. Inside the car were Angela Martinez, 22, and Marissa Bell, 19, and the pit bulls — Tank and Dochie, the affidavit said. The women said they left to keep police from seizing the dogs, the affidavit said. Martinez was walking the dogs when they attacked, the affidavit said.
The women were charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, for keeping the dogs from police.
The Chihuahua's condition wasn't available.
